Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) helps reduce inflammation to eliminate pain and aid in the healing of an acute injury or after an operative procedure.

Inflammation is the body’s natural response to an injury or infection. However, too much of it can cause additional harm to the body after a sprain, fracture or wound. We know to apply ice immediately after an acute injury to lessen swelling and thus reduce the damage to surrounding soft tissue. FSM does, even more, to control inflammation and shorten the length of time needed to heal.

FSM is a technique that uses electrical stimulation to heal tissue. Physiotherapists and other health practitioners have used similar, less refined methods for decades. The ability to adjust the frequency is what makes FSM so much more effective.

Why Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) Works

Our brain uses electric signals to communicate with our bodies. The brain can send signals such as “activate this muscle” and receive messages from the spinal chord such as “pain.” FSM uses the same type of electric current to effect change within the body. Different frequencies can help eliminate pain or reactivate cells that have shut down due to injury, allowing them to receive nutrients to enable healing. FSM treatment has been known to increase the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) by 500 percent. ATP is what cells use for energy.

A Typical FSM Session

The session may take 30 to 60 minutes depending on conditions. You must be well hydrated to allow the FSM to be effective. During a FSM session, you rest comfortably while the microcurrent is delivered through electrodes placed on the area of treatment. Because the current is the same as what your body produces, there is no unpleasant sensation. This subtle stimulation of cells reduces inflammation, breaks up scar tissue, eases pain sensations and accelerated post-surgery or post-injury recovery. It has even been known to elevated mood, help shrink fat cells and tighten skin! That’s pain relief with an added bonus.

There are no contraindications for FSM and no documented risks, however, it is not recommended during the pregnancy to have the current going through the stomach, because an infant’s nervous system hasn’t fully developed yet.

Being a fibromyalgia sufferer, I have long searched for treatments that will alleviate my pain without pharmaceutical intervention. I’ve tried physiotherapists, acupuncturists, RMTs, biofeedback and osteopaths. However, my fibromyalgia specialist suggested that I look into microcurrent and find a qualified practitioner, as new research was showing it had a very positive impact on pain. I found Ki-Hun and booked an evaluation.

I’m a skeptic by nature – I generally like to attend a series of treatments before rendering final judgement. From the beginning, Ki-Hun had an uphill battle in me – I arrived with pain ranked 9 on a 10 scale (I view 10 as being pain so bad you can’t stop crying, or get thoroughly nauseated as a result). My mother even had to take me there by carrying my purse for me, as my pain was mainly in my shoulders. Before the appointment, I just wanted something – anything – to ease the miserable pain.

Throughout that appointment I was amazed at how delicate and gentle Ki-Hun was in his work. He addressed muscle knots from my head to my feet, focusing on the particularly painful shoulders and back, but though his touch was so gentle it never once made me wince or complain. By the time the session was done my muscles were well on their way to being completely relaxed, and I could confidently rate my pain as a 4 out of 10.

Skeptic though I always was, I could not deny that the microcurrent combined with Ki-Hun’s massage were highly effective for me. I am pleased to say that after almost a year of seeing him I still get these positive results, and we have experimented with microcurrent further to address other systemic problems (that is, going from muscle knots to addressing some of my insomnia and hormonal imbalances). I wouldn’t trade Ki-Hun for the most famous of therapists – I can’t say he is worth his weight in gold, because he is worth far, far more!
